Also also, I saw the trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes film, and it looks fucking awesome! FUCK YEAH!

What is it with Robert Downey, Jr. being in all the movies I'm watching/want to see lately? I mean, other than the fact that he's AWESOME?

Connie is adjusting very well to her new home, but then again, anything is cushier than hiding in fear underneath a commercial air conditioning unit. She's nearly two pounds in the less than a week she's been here, which is great, as she was only 1 pound, 11 ounces when we adopted her.

In other news, I have just concluded my very first jury duty. I had the misfortune of having actually been selected as a juror, so my one day service became a four day ordeal. It was certainly a good experience, and very educational, but I hope that I don't have to do it again for a very long while.

Also, went to see Half-Blood Prince.

Thoughts. )
I haven't posted a real entry in awhile. I'll try to keep this short and sweet. :3

  • I've spent most of the last month spending time with friends. There have been weeks where I've been out six out of seven days of the week, which is to say that I love you all dearly! ♥♥♥

  • A couple of weeks ago, I went to see the musical We Will Rock You with Jen, Rin and Becky. It was a lot of fun. I wasn't expecting the musical to be as colorful and cracktastic as it is. XD;;

  • I went to Pride with Jen, Rin, Kyle and Rin's cousin Erin. :D I missed the parade since I was nursing a headache in the early afternoon. Still, it was great to be out and about. As we were walking down church street passing people in elaborate costumes, I commented to Kyle that I felt underdressed. He gestured towards my jacket and jeans and said, "Or maybe overdressed." XD Also, we got to play with adorable little puppies~! X3

  • A few weeks ago, Becky and I were hit on by middle schoolers on the subway. This kid sat in the center seat of three adjoining seats across from us and put his arms around the backs of the people next to him. At first, we thought he knew these people, but it turned out he was trying to make them uncomfortable so they'd leave so his friend could sit down. :/ I noticed this, and pointed it out to Becky. The kid caught me talking about him and started talking to me so I talked back. The next thing we know, the kid is hitting on us. He was probably... 12. He asked for our MSN and Facebook, and I told him, "We're too old for you, kid." He replied, "Just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm not good in bed." I was disgusted and I should have been angry and chewed the kid out, but at the time, I couldn't stop laughing at the absurdity of the situation. (The really gross thing was when the kid walked off later and returned with a girl about his age who draped herself all over him. As Becky put it: "It made me throw up in my mouth a little.")

  • The day after the incident above, when I was walking with Sakura, a kid who was probably fifteen or sixteen hit on us. He pulled up next to us on his bicycle, and as he rode next to us, he told us that we were beautiful. He gestured towards Sakura and said, "I know she's from Korea," (we were in a Korean part of town, but still... WTF?) and then he gestured towards me as he asked, "but where are you from?" Then, out of nowhere, he started to guess countries he thought I could be from. "Hungary? ...India? ...Pakistan? ..Sri Lanka? ...Iran? ...Bulgaria? ...Georgia? ...Tunisia?" Despite me telling him that we weren't interested, he went on and on like that, and he wasn't paying attention to where he was going so he rode his bike right into a planter! XD Anyway, he left us alone, only to come back about a minute later and continue guessing countries of my possible origin. "So she's Korean and you're from... Turkey? ...Israel? ...Palestine? ...Iraq? ...Saudi Arabia?" SO MUCH FAIL. I finally got it through to the kid that we weren't interested, and when he finally rode off for good, Sakura and I laughed and laughed.

    Some thoughts:
    a) What's up with us getting hit on by kids? I mean, I've gotten hit on by middle and high schoolers on by bus route multiple times over the years, but these two instances were ridiculous.
    b) When someone says they're not interested, leave them alone! They shouldn't have to say it twice!
    c) The sad sighs for "youth today" bug me, because a) I find that they tend to generalize youth into a homogeneous group and b) often blame "the youth today" for structural forces they often have no control over, which diverts attention away from said forces.
    d) My entire life I've been asked "where I'm from" (usually translating to someone wanting to know what country of original could possibly explain my coloring). Never have I met someone who was so... shall I say "determined" to get an answer to that question. XD;;;

  • About two weeks ago, Amanda called me while Becky was over. Since I needed to deal with something in another room, I told Amanda that Becky had an announcement to make and tossed the phone to Becky. As I left the room, I heard Becky exclaim into the receiver, "I am not pregnant!" Good times!

  • On the same afternoon I went downtown to pick up my diploma, I bought a Star Trek phaser. ...I love my life!

  • I spent a week or so making Star Trek dresses for Polaris! :D (Thank you for all the lovely comments! ♥)

  • I'm in the process of reading William Shatner's "Star Trek Movie Memories" autobiography. The story of how I found this book is somewhat amusing. Rin dragged me to the library because she had an errand to run and while she working on said errand, I checked out the section for music books. In between a hard-cover book detailing the many manufacturers of electric guitars and a book on beginner's guitar chords was inexplicably Shatner's autobiography. I was, like, "Okay, universe. I get the hint. I'll take it out now." XD

Cut for Star Trek... and my crush on DeForest Kelley. )

  • The most recent episode of RPM is love! I adore Gem and Gemma and their love of things that go boom, I am amused by Scott's semi-permanent "why is this my life?" expression, I am glad that that Summer was finally written well, and I cheered when Ziggy and Dillon once again proved they are the best of friends. ♥~ ...I am refusing to believe this series is already half-way over!

  • I'm having some computer issues. My computer is very old, and it has been acting up lately. (This is bad, seeing as a year ago Blue Rose got so frustrated with it that she threatened to throw it out my window and it's worse now.) Also, today one of my external hard drives decided that it would pretend to be blank leaving me with no access to the files on it. D: D: D: I have a couple years worth of backup files, all my Johnny's shiny, and my Power Rangers and Star Trek on that external. It could be worse. At least it wasn't something critical, but... my shiny! ;______;

  • Because there are people who haven't seen this yet: "I'm On A Boat!" Star Trek style! XD

  • Finally, if you're going to Otakon this weekend, I hope you have a great time! :3

    Shipping and Pairing

    • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 7:57 PM
I've explained my perspectives on this a lot, but here's me doing it again for memory sake.

I know people tend to go "I SHIP IT" a lot. For me, I do the same, but I have... different expectations.

When I ship something, it means I love it but I don't really expect it to happen or work for it to happen. For example: I ship Gin x Kaien, I ship Gin x Findor, I ship Ichigo x Rukia, I ship Yuuto and Deneb, I ship Ashido and Renji, etc etc.
    BUT
I don't expect any of them to actually either happen or be played out. If they do, it's not really me being serious, or it could be cracky. If I'm really serious about it, then it becomes a pairing.

When I pair people or characters, I would really like to see it happen. For example, I pair Gin and Hakkai, I pair Ichigo and Orihime, I pair Gin and Kira, I pair Aizen and Gin, I pair Urataros and Momotaros, I pair Kintaros and Urataros, etc etc.

:3 Hope that helps me and others.

lolololol sittin' under a tree durin' a thunderstorm too watch a soccer game. I am, as always, an ingenious mastermind.

edit: OKAY I DID NOT DIE, and I kicked some serious ass. Some dumb teenager kicked the ball up the hill where I was standing, and I yelled "FREE BALL!!!1." He was ROLLING HIS EYES in disgust as I ran over because, yeah, fat girl in your ball game. But the joke is on him, as I used to play. I nailed this bitchball with the side of my foot -- IN SHITTY SANDALS I WILL ADD -- and it was like. The perfect straight shot. I almost took this bastard's head off.

I am so proud of me |3

Well, since it looks like I won't be able to do the big, very well paying modeling job - this not having my car thing is seriously killing me - I've decided to pimp my housekeeping services out to the neighborhood. I'm going to draft up some flyers, charge insanely low, and post them around the neighborhood. Here's hoping!

Hopefully I can also get to the thrift stores and the library and get books to sell back for cash.

I think I need a new bottle of sleeping pills. :/ I lost mine, and my hallucinations started up again last night. Not terribly strong or anything, but enough to freak me out a small bit. I saw a man in my bedroom, crawling along my floor. My poor brain snapped awake immediately, recognizing those key signs that tell me I'm dreaming while still awake, but it was definitely unpleasant.

My Japanese eggplants are coming in wonderfully, though! And while it was touch and go for a bit with my sage, it's sprung to life this week. I'm going to have to transplant it again soon!

I think I'm going to defrost my cornish game hen and cook it tonight for dinner. I've got an ear of corn left, and some salad fixings. T'would be a good dinner. :D

    Baby's first bondage gear!

    • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 4:14 AM
Apparently, all I needed to kickstart myself back into sewing was some kind of inspiration - thanks, CHKD Thrift Stores! - so I'm now on a pre-Otakon sewing bender. I'm more than halfway through - I've made my bloomers and Matsu's corset.

    SPEAKING OF:

I made my first corset ever! )

The picture of the back didn't turn out that well, but I did what I could with it in Photoshop. I used some REALLY FREAKING FRUSTRATING metallic thread - it comes loose from its roll really easily, but apparently it's also as strong as some kind of STEEL THREAD, so hopefully this'll be able to take the pressure that a corset operates under. The whole thing took about seven hours, start to finish. And yes, that is sum steel boning in there - baby don't fuck around. I think I dulled the shit out of my pliers, though.

Now I just need to make my Orihime skirt, a hairbow, and a black headpiece. The latter two shouldn't take more than an hour apiece, but the skirt is probably going to be an all day job.

    Now for sum nachos!

    sermon: Forgiveness

    • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 12:02 AM
Yesterday, I listened to a very powerful radio-sermon with my mom. It was about Forgiveness. I realized it's very hard to come to grips with it, and easy to say, hard to do.

Like, having a fight with someone, either side does not want to "give in" so to speak. And apologizing helps, but you will naturally still feel anger or sadness or guilt deep in your heart. Just thinking about the fight makes your heart thump with pain, I'm sure you know the feeling.

    Ebi talks about Forgiveness. )

    Yay, Otakon!

    • Jul. 16th, 2009 at 12:03 AM
Okay, just about packed. Which means all my cosplay stuff is in my suitcase and all my actual clothes are in my duffel bag. (Hey, Allen's boots take up a lot of the suitcase!) Those of you in my room whose numbers I have can expect text messages with my progress in getting there (hopefully, there will be no AMTRAK PHAIL like last year).

So I'm in the hotel bar, using the wif, drinking hot chocolate, and I've just been to see HBP at the Empire in Leicester Square. I won't say much about the movie itself, at the moment, just this: I forgot how much I really, really like these stories.

So I had a wonderful time last night watching my best friend get drunk and fail a sobriety test and walk into traffic while she was supposed to be walking to the van (IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION EVEN).

And my joy was just shattered by a phone call.

My cousins have two cats, Lily and Tigger. They are outdoor cats, and earlier this morning, my cousin saw a car zoom by on the dirt road on which they live. The car swerved toward the ditch, and drove off even faster than it had come. The reason, she discovered, was that it was PURPOSEFULLY SWERVING TO RUN OVER HER CAT.

They just had to put Lily down because of a giant fuckhole.

and I am pissed because she was the sweetest, nicest cat there ever was. >( All she wanted was to be cuddled and petted. God save the assmunch if I find out who that was.
